Kumasi Floods: Tears as woman, 3 children are buried

All four victims of last month’s Kumasi floods were on Saturday, July 14, 2018 buried after requiem service was held for them at the Asokore Mampong MA Primary School Park.

Louisa, Christian Liza and Susana were reportedly taken away by flood waters and their bodies recovered the following day by officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

It was a sad moment for relations and colleagues of the deceased persons as their mortal remains were conveyed to the cemetery for burial after a nondenominational requiem service also attended by MyNewsGh.com reporters.

The bereaved families were inconsolable as they wept bitterly when their caskets were taken from the service ground onto a waiting hearse to their final resting place.

Even those who mustered courage and attempted not to weep eventually broke down emotionally and ended up weeping uncontrollably triggering a general wailing.

It would be recalled that four persons were confirmed dead, and one missing, following a heavy rain that caused flooding in some parts of Kumasi, Ghana’s second largest city, weeks ago

Mr. Kwabena Nsenkyire, the Ashanti Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) who confirmed the deaths, said they were swept away by fast-moving water.

Asibi, Sawaba and Maxima near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) were the worst hit areas.

He said but for the swift response of the Ghana National Fire Service and NADMO, the casualty figures would have been higher.

Vehicles including motorbike riders plying the Asokore Mampong road had to park due to the high currents of the flood water.
