Two books on Ghanaian Customary Land Law were at the weekend launched to aid in research and guide legal practitioners and the public on documented landmark cases adjudicated in the courts.

Mr Kwame Gyan is the author of the “Cases and Materials on Customary Land Law of Ghana - Customary Land Interests, Volume I, and Cases and Materials on Customary Land law of Ghana - Customary Land Management, Volume II.”

Mr Gyan said the publication was to lessen the burden of research on law students who had to dig deep into antiquities to find literature and information on customary lands.

At the launch of the books in Accra, he expressed the hope that his publication would serve as the one-stop shop for research materials on land law.

Mr Gyan said he was optimistic the books would inform and advice the citizenry on how to avoid pitfalls in buying parcels of land.

He disclosed that each of the volumes contained four chapters that captured both ancient and recent court cases on lands.

While Volume I dealt with topics including alluvial titles and customary laws, the Volume II tackled matrimonial property, formalities of transfer of land interest as well as the stool, family and land-owning entities.

Mr Gyan expressed confidence that the publication had succeeded in demystifying the law and bringing it from the confines of the libraries to the people.

The well-patronised event saw personalities like Mr Kennedy Agyepong, Member of Parliament for Assin North, purchasing the publications for GH¢5,000 and Mr Samuel Osei Kuffuor, former Ghana Black Stars player, paying an undisclosed amount for the two volumes.
