Awutu-Bawjiase (C/R), Dec. 31, GNA - The Zonal Executives of the Meyenda zone of the Seven Day Adventist (SDA) Church in the Awutu-Bawjiase District of the South Ghana Conference of the church have establish seven income generating ventures to help reduce poverty in the area.
The Zonal Co-ordinator for the Adventists Youth Industrial Programme, Mr Ebenezer Yankson disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Meyenda on Thursday.
He mentioned some of the projects (ventures) as Beekeeping, Mushroom growing, Kente weaving, batik-tie and dye, vegetable production, fish-farming and livestock production.
According to Mr Yankson, with financial assistance from the Awutu Emasa Rural Bank, the textile production and the beekeeping have taken off.
He stressed that about 240 farmers have expressed interest in the beekeeping project and hoped that by the time the programme would have expired in 2008, about 10,000 people in the area would have improved upon their financial position.
Mr Yankson therefore, appealed to the financial institutions in the Agona and Awutu-Effutu-Senya districts and the assemblies to give them financial assistance to ensure the success of the programme.
