The seven NPP activists in Gwollu in the Sissala West District of the Upper West region suspected to have played various roles in the locking up of the offices of the District Chief Executive of the area, have been remanded into prison custody for a week.

The suspects were arrested and arraigned before court, Wednesday.

They have been slapped with charges of conspiracy to riot and rioting with offensive weapons.

They are the Sissala West Constituency Chairman of the NPP, Bukari Dramani, Constituency Treasurer, Mahamaudu Forkah, Nassara Coordinator, Walika Iddrisu, Polling Station chairman, Alidu Mumuni.

The rest are Amadu Sumani Zaato, who is a government appointee, Suley Mohammed, Mental Health Nurse and Gbemmie Lukeman who is a midwife.

Prosecuting at the Wa magistrate court on Wednesday morning, Chief Inspector Daniel Yaw Yeboah of the Upper West regional CID said the accused persons and some others who are at large led a demonstration that resulted in the closure of offices of the Sissala West District Assembly.

The police prosecutor Chief Inspector Daniel Yeboah appealed to the judge, Sydney Braimah to remand the suspects in custody in order for him to finish with investigations.

According to him, other suspects on the run are being hunted and needed ample time to conclude the investigations.

But the Counsel for the suspects pleaded with the court to grant the suspects bail arguing that the facts presented by the prosecution do not support the case.

The judge however, agreed with the call of the prosecution and remanded the suspects to one week in prison custody.
