PURC educates St John’s Grammar students on electricity, water consumption

The Greater Accra Regional office of the Commission embarked on Public Education programmes in the first quarter of the year, 2019 which aimed at creating awareness, educating consumers of electricity and water on their rights and responsibilities and intensifying the outreach efforts of the Commission as a whole.

It was also to create, gather feedback about consumer awareness level of the commission.

In the first Quarter of 2019, schools programme dubbed “Catch them Young” was conducted at St’ John’s Grammar Senior High School in the Greater Accra Region. Over one thousand and five Hundred (1500) students participated in the program.

The Greater Accra Regional team took staff and students through the functions and complaints policy and procedures of the Commission.

The Greater Accra Regional Manager of the Commission explained that everyone uses electricity and water and therefore need to know their rights and responsibilities.

The Manager further explained to the students on energy and water conservation tips that they should iron in bulk, switch off lights when not in use, television and other gadgets should not be left on standby mode and wash cars with water in buckets instead of the use water hose.

The Manager ended by saying conservation is critical in reducing the bills of their parents that would enable them to meet their needs as students.

The students and staff were very happy and grateful to the Commission for the education and asked many questions. The team took time to offer explanations to all questions asked.

On behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. Mami Dufie Ofori, the team was grateful to the headmaster, staff and students for the opportunity to conduct the school education.
