About 25 houses and 130 families have been rendered homeless in some parts of Kusuwgu in the Central Gonja District of the Northern Region.

Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE revealed that the rainstorm started at about 8:30 pm till dawn on Thursday, destroying lots of properties in the Kusuwgu area.

Some of the affected families have so far been relying on friends and external relations for shelter and food to cater for their children.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, the NADMO Coordinator for Kusuwgu, Abdulai Haruna, said he went round with his men to ascertain the extent of destruction caused by the rain.

He indicated that he would forward his report to the authorities for further action, but quickly added that the district does not have relief items at the moment.

The NADMO Coordinator said some of the affected victims had started buying roofing sheets, nails and other materials to roof their houses because they could not wait for NADMO.

He appealed to NGOs, well-wishers and other institutions to come to the aid of the affected victims for the time being.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Central Gonja, Mumuni Shiraz Ibin Yacin, told DAILY GUIDE that the assembly was collating the number of houses affected and after that the assembly would know what to do next.

“When we are able to determine the extent of damage, we will know what the assembly can do…...” the DCE pointed out.
