The Deputy Director of the Ghana Highways Authority, Alhaji Baba Kassim says reconstruction work on the Ghc30 million Nsawam-Asamankese road project will begin in May this year.

Two contractors were to finalize the signing of contracts with the Highways Authority last Friday, April 3, 2015.

Inhabitants of Asamankese and surrounding communities as well as first time travelers on that stretch of road, have repeatedly lamented the terrible nature of the Asamankese to Nsawam road and its effects on economic activities.

The road links the diamond mining town of Akwatia, Adeiso, Pokuase, Nsawam and several communities in the Ga South District.

It also serves thousands of people but unfortunately it is in a deplorable state.

The road has deep pot holes, much to the discomfort of motorists. The road worsens at the slightest downpour affecting transportation of food stuff.

Residents and motorists are deeply unhappy about the state of the road. Some residents have also taken advantage of the situation, filling the potholes with sand for a fee from motorists.

The Deputy Director of the Ghana Highways Authority, Alhaji Baba Kassim, says reconstruction work is scheduled to begin in May after agreements are signed with two contractors in April this year.

"It was originally awarded to a contractor in 2012. He went around and did a bit of the work but unfortunately he did not continue. In fact we are signing contracts this week for two contractors to go on the road. They are EdMac Limited and Ghana Construction Limited. The work will entail provision of necessary drainage structures and then it will end in a double surface dressing" he noted.
