The National Security Secretariat has directed the Police Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) to begin prosecution of individuals who are caught abusing the siren.

The move follows numerous complaints from road users about the abuse of siren by some motorists.

A fine of GHc300 has been set for offenders.

Speaking to Starr News Director of Education, Research and Training of the MTTD DSP Alexander Obeng said offenders who are unable to pay the fine risk 30 days in jail.

“The sanction are clear in the road traffic regulations (74) and (106): that when these things are done and the police arrest you; you must be sent to court.

“And in instances like abusing a siren, you could spend not less than 30 days in prison,” he said.
