A joint anti-fraud task force on communication is proposing the establishment of a special court to handle cases of SIM box fraud.

The National Communications Authority reports that Ghana loses about $40 million to SIM box fraud every year.

The taskforce, which laments the delay in prosecuting SIM box fraud suspects believes such a court will be significant in fighting the problem.

It has, over the years, embarked on tireless attempts to stop the menace from completely crippling the telecommunication sector.

Head of Legal and Prosecution unit for the taskforce, Superintendent Francis Baah says: “We should have special courts and selected prosecutors should be assigned to these courts, so that when the dockets get to them, they go straight to that court to ensure that we get results fast.”

“If it goes through the mainstream like any case that goes to court, and it gets to a prosecutor who has a heap of documents, it will be very difficult to get to the bottom of the case,” he explained.
