Elmina (C/R), March 21, GNA - An appeal has been made to persons who have not yet registered to do so without delay to avoid the need to extend the registration period.
Mr F.K.A. Tagoe, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), who made the appeal said the compilation of a new register was an expensive exercise and therefore extending the period would be at extra cost to the nation. Mr Tagoe said waiting to register at the last minute could be dangerous as it would compel numerous late comers to struggle among themselves to get registered and thereby marring its smooth conduct and urged the electorate to take advantage of the least opportunity to register.
Speaking to Ghana News Agency at Elmina after a visit to some registration centres in the district, Mr Tagoe expressed satisfaction about the peaceful and orderly manner the exercise was going on. He reminded Ghanaians about the case of a man who could not get a ministerial post because he was not a registered voter and admonished them to take the registration exercise very seriously since apart from exercising ones franchise, the registration could be of benefit to them in other ways.
Mr Tagoe cautioned against multiple registrations and exhorted those who had registered to refrain from attempting to register again since it could land them in jail.
