The project would be executed under the City of Charlottesville of USA and the Winneba Sister City Commission Relation programme.

The Vice Mayor of Charlottesville, Ms Kristin Szakos, and Mr Dave Norris, immediate past Mayor of Charlottesville, attended a ground-breaking ceremony for commencement of work in Winneba on Monday.

They are expected to discuss arrangements for the new West African Artist-in-Residence Program in the Charlottesville City Schools.

Mr Norris told the GNA that a 10-member delegation from the City of Charlottesville was in Ghana, to explore areas of opportunities for residents, community leaders and authorities of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

The delegation had already discussed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between University of Virginia and the UEW, students’ exchange programme, and joint research.

The Very Reverend Eldad Bonney, Presiding Member for Effutu Municipal Assembly, on behalf of people of Effutu and the Winneba Sister City Commission, praised the delegation for its contribution to the development of Winneba.

Nana Kojo Bedu, a member of Winneba Sister City Commission, Nii Ephraim, Effutu, Municipal Chief Executive and Mrs Valentina Bannerman, jointly cut the sod to commence work on the project.
