The National Apprenticeship Programme has presented large quantities of tools to the Yendi Municipal Assembly to help to train out of school youth in the Yendi Municipality.

The youth would be trained in carpentry, missionary, sewing, wielding and hairdressing, which is meant to help address the problem of unemployment in the area.

Mr Issah Zakaria, Yendi Municipal Chief Executive who presented the tools to the apprentices on behalf of the government, said the NDC government would not discriminate when distributing the national cake.

He said as the government was putting up schools, hospitals and building roads there was also the need to train the youth who dropped out of school to acquire some basic skills to be self-employed.

Mr Zakaria said the Assembly would be supervising their training to ensure that the tools were used for their intended purpose.

The Yendi Municipal Assembly Coordinator of the Council for Technical Vocational Educational and Training (COTVET), Alhaji Mahama Abdulai Shamrock, said the National Apprenticeship Programme had so far trained some 19 master craftsmen in the Yendi Municipality so that they would train more than 64 apprentices.

Alhaji Abdul-Mumin Mutakilu Wakaso, a master craftsman on behalf of the beneficiary Youth thanked the government and the Assembly for introducing the programme to train the youth to acquire skills.
