Nkonya, Feb 14, GNA - Chiefs in the newly created Biakoye District have been urged to overcome differences over the choice of Nkonya as the district capital and rally their peoples towards the rapid development of the new district. Alhaji Awudu Yirimea, Deputy Minister of Local Government Rural Development and Environment, said this when he visited Nkonya Ahenkro, the district capital, to assess the level of infrastructure there. He appealed to the chiefs to let the fulfilment of their collective dream for a separate district override any other considerations likely to undermine the realization of the larger dream of development and eradication of poverty. Mr Solomon Kwame Donkor, District Chief Executive of Jasikan, said he was optimistic about the future of the new district provided the chiefs, assembly members, opinion leaders and the people played their parts positively. Mr. Collins Boateng, Chief Executive of Ghana Export Promotion Council, gave the assurance that a blueprint for the development of the district would be formulated and commended the government for the new district. Nana Okoto Kofi III, Paramount Chief of Nkonya Traditional, area praised the government for creating the new district in response to the call of the chiefs and people of the area.
