Before Denkyira captured part of today Asante, there was no Ashanti kingdom in existence. The Denkyira King; Ntim Gyakari was part of the main reasons why the Ashanti Kingdom was formed.
The Ashantis united to form a formidable military force aimed at winning wars and especially to defeat Denkyira. And this was achieved through the first Ashanti-Denkyira war which the Ashantis won. The people the Denkyira defeated we the Amansie and Beposo clans/families.

His mother Manu,a sister of Obiri Yeboah seeked for a herbal medicine in the Shrine called 'OTUTU' for his sister to be able to have a child and after successfully being able to bore a child was then give the name 'OTUTU' after the shrine and that was the place Okomfo Awuku (AKA) Anokye met the young Kofi Osei and became frinds

This the reason the current Otumfoo visiter the hometown in Akwapim (Awukugua) in the 1990s.
