The single-lane highway is the main root cause of the multiple accidents along Accra to Kumasi road. To avoid responsibility, every government blames overspending as the cause of these accidents, instead of dualizing the lanes. The whole highway needs to be rebuilt by awarding the contract to a multinational company at absolutely no cost to the Ghana government. All that needs to be done is to sign a contract for that company to collect highway tolls for about 30 to 40 years to recoup their money and profit while maintaining the highway in top condition within the contract period. A lot of highways in the advanced countries are built this way with tolls booths along the routes to recoup the costs. It’s high time the government realized that it can’t afford to build everything for free in Ghana

Why do we continue to experience such HORRENDOUS DEATH RATES ON OUR ROADS? ANYTIME YOU TRAVEL ON OUR ROADS YOU ARE ALMOST PLAYING A DEATH LOTTERY WITH YOUR LIFE!!
The reasons for this remain unchanged to this day:
1.Terrible roads, poor road signage (potholes, broken bridges etc etc),
2. reckless and dangerous drivers (many very unqualified to be on our roads) who have little respect for traffic rules (over speeding, overtaking ,don't wear seat belts or even driving on the wrong side of the road- how crazy can people be? etc)
3.Poorly maintained vehicles- many of these are not road worthy (brakes that fail to work, tires that blow out, overloading, engines that fail without warning, lack of adequate light at night time)
4.Traffic Police who take bribes and look the other way or turn a blind eye to serious traffic infractions.
5.Complete indifference shown by successive governments about the atrocious state of our roads!
ALL THESE FACTORS CONTRIBUTE TO THE APPALLING DEATH RATES ON OUR ROADS.

This is one of the achievements of both NDC & NPP. For 32yrs they couldn't construct a modern 450km highway from Accra to Paga.Elsewhere a modern railway line would have been an under achievement.

Deadly head-on collision can occur on a road where the drivers are driving faster in which they cannot do anything if their vehicles are going to crash into another one.

How many vehicles plied the road that day but only the two had fatal collision? It means one of the drivers was driving carelessly. Every accident that occurs on our road are human error, and I do stand by that. Some of our drivers are too stupid to sit behind a steering wheel.

1. There are too many people without education, at lesst to secondary level. This is causing a lot of ignorance and the simple disrespect for civil responsibility. An uneducated person is not far from an animal. They do not know right or wrong.
2. White men came to colonize you, got what they wanted to steal, and left you with a copycat political and industrial ideology. The cars and machines on your roads are all old. Spare parts are not easily obtainable, resulting in fatal accidents because most vehicles are not well maintained.
3. Every vehicle on African roads, is money in European pockets. These vehicles are really not roadworthy. There is no culture of maintenance in Africa.
3. Too much laziness and corruption. Police and officials take bribes all the time and close their eyes to irregularities in everyday life. This is causing death, as most technical security lapses are left unattended to.
4. Vehicle owners and drivers if not deaed after these crashes, must be jailed for the accidents. Negligence.
5. Who the hell endorses these vehicles as roadworthy during the DVLA checks??? These people must be jailed.
6. African engineers! What is your degree for? Why can't governments in Africa bring these heads together, to create an industralized African automobile manufacturing revolution, so we stop importing vehicles and spare parts from abroad?

Too much blood has been spilled on this particular road. Something spiritual has been offended and is demanding blood every day. Something must be done immediately to appease those offended. The road itself must be closed for some time and reopened after it has been professionally redone.

Let's be honest, humble and truthful to one another as fellow citizens and pray so our successive governments will continue viable ongoing projects started by the preceeding governments. 5 critical sections are already undergoing 3 lane dualization at Pokuase- Nsawam Junction, Bunso- Osino, Osino - Anyinam, Anyinam - Enyeresi - Jejeti and Konongo Bypasses. When completed will reduce travel time considerably, ensure efficient transport operation, reduce head-on collisions. Currently all the Contractors have left site. Their presence at the various sections provide traffic safety to current and existing traffic movements along the corridor. To augment smooth movement in the event of accidents and hold ups existing traffic are often diverted unto the ongoing bypass sections servind as alternative routes. Currently the projects with some completed overpasses and underpasses as well as completed gravel sections are left in the bush wasting away. May God help our nation to derive timely benefits of viable projects.
