They are originally from Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso so they have gone back home and should be made to stay there. If care is not taken another crisis could take place in the Walla area too. These Brifors and Lobis ran away from French colonialism in Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso into Northern Ghana in the 50s and 60s They were warmly welcomed by the Gonjas and Wallas and given places to settle peacefully. However, they are now provoking their benefactors by claiming ownership of the lands that were given to them free to settle, farm and earn a living. The rules of engagement was that after every harvest they will each give their benefactors head loads of grain but now they have grown wings/horns and refusing to go by the terms of the engagement. Additionally, they now build wherever they want without regard to the land owners; another violation of the rules of engagement since they are to seek permission from the land owners for any new construction they want to undertake. My question is, can this happen in Southern Ghana? They go to Southern Ghana and abide by their 2/3 and 1/3 formula and yet they come here and behave as if they own the land with the indigenes. With current developments and conditions we find ourselves in, it will be important for them to negotiate new agreements with their benefactors to ensure peaceful coexistence or else these clashes will escalate again in the future. Government may intervene and fashion out an agreement between the indigenes and settlers for a lasting peace to prevail. Ghana should be peaceful but not at the expense of its indigenous populations who generously welcomes immigrants.
