Asiedu Nketiah has slammed the New Patriotic Party over the bias claims
The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has criticised the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) over what he describes as hypocritical and tribalistic comments regarding local government appointments in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking to a large crowd in the Asawase Constituency during the second phase of his regional “Thank You” tour, the NDC Chairman responded to claims by the NPP that the government is appointing individuals of Northern descent as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Ashanti Region without regard for local sensitivities.
The NPP has argued that such appointments overlook the traditional and socio-political dynamics of the Ashanti people.
However, Asiedu Nketiah, popularly known as “General Mosquito,” rejected the claims, describing them as attempts to promote division.
He stated that the NPP’s position contradicts its own principles of merit-based leadership, noting that competence should be the key consideration for public office, not ethnic background.
Asiedu Nketiah further questioned the NPP’s stance, pointing out that the party is presenting a presidential candidate from Northern Ghana to lead the entire country, including the Ashanti Region.
He emphasised that the NDC remains committed to inclusivity, national unity, and equal opportunity for all Ghanaians, regardless of tribe or region.
He also urged residents of Asawase and the Ashanti Region to reject divisive politics and instead focus on development and unity.
The chairman’s “Thank You” tour is expected to continue across the Ashanti Region, where he will engage traditional authorities, labour groups, and party supporters to strengthen the NDC’s presence in the region.
