The project is aimed at improving access to quality education
The chief of Essuowin, Nana Akyena Kwagyan Nuama V, has officially cut the sod for the construction of an ultra-modern senior high school in the community.
The project is aimed at improving access to quality education for residents, particularly students who are unable to gain admission into some of the country’s top senior high schools.
The ceremony attracted a number of dignitaries, including traditional leaders, education and district directors, as well as other key stakeholders.
Speaking at the ceremony held on Friday, April 17, 2026, Nana Akyena Kwagyan Nuama V emphasised that the initiative seeks to provide opportunities for students who miss out on SHS education due to the lack of adequate school facilities in the Amansie West District.
“We want to create a school that gives our children the same quality and chances as those in the big-name schools,” he said.
He added that the project also aligns with government efforts to improve the country’s educational system.
“This is our contribution to national development through education,” Nana Akyena Kwagyan Nuama V noted.
Donation to the project
The chief had already donated GH¢500,000 and 10,000 concrete blocks for the construction.
He also released 25 acres of land for the school project.
“The land and these materials are my seed contribution. I will not stop until we see classrooms here,” he stated.
He pledged his continuous support to ensure the project becomes a success.
“I will be with this project from start to finish. Education is the future of Essuowin,” he added.
Call for support
During the sod-cutting ceremony, he appealed to government and other stakeholders to support the project, noting that the community’s efforts alone were not enough.
“We have started, but we cannot do it alone. We need government, NGOs, and everyone to come on board,” he appealed.
Appreciation
Chairman of the Steering Committee, Kwame Owusu Nuako, revealed that all necessary drawings and documentation for the project have been completed.
“We are ready to build. The plans are approved and we are set,” he said.
He expressed appreciation to stakeholders, including miners, government officials, traditional authorities, and individuals who have contributed to the project so far.
“To all who have supported us already, we say thank you,” he stated.
He further called for continued support to ensure the successful completion of the initiative.
“Let’s all put our hands to this. Together we can deliver this school for our children,” he added.
