Mariam Yussif, a staunch member of the opposition NPP, has officially declared her intention to contest for the position of Youth Organiser in the Asawase Constituency.

In a formal declaration of her intent, the 34-year-old aspirant emphasised that the youth are the backbone of the party’s success in Asawase, a constituency widely regarded as a crucial battleground for the NPP.

Outlining her vision, the grassroots activist and IT professional said her campaign is built on a five-point transformation agenda designed to revitalise the youth wing.

Her key priorities include grassroots mobilisation to strengthen youth engagement across all polling stations; unity and discipline to promote loyalty and togetherness within the party; youth empowerment through platforms that actively involve young people in party activities; increased participation to boost youth turnout in elections and party programmes; and strategic competitiveness to introduce innovative approaches that make the NPP more competitive in Asawase.

“I am stepping forward with a clear vision to serve with dedication, humility, and hard work. I will be accessible, accountable, and focused on advancing the interests of every young party member,” she said.

Mariam Yussif brings a blend of political and academic experience to the race. She is currently a student at the Christian Service University (CSU), where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Information Technology.

Her political résumé is marked by active service and leadership. She is the founder of the “United Ladies and Gents for DMB,” a group dedicated to the party’s cause, and currently serves as the Deputy Coordinator for the B24 Asawasi campaign team.

Notably, Mariam is not new to electoral contests, having previously run for the Assemblywoman position in the Akurem Electoral Area. Although she was unsuccessful, she describes the experience as a valuable learning curve that has better prepared her for constituency-level leadership.

As the NPP prepares for its internal elections, Mariam has called on all young party members to unite behind a common goal of making the party a formidable force in Asawase.

“Together, let us build a stronger, united, and winning NPP in Asawase,” she concluded, urging delegates to entrust her with the mandate to lead the youth wing into the next general elections.
