The assembly member is calling on government to build a sea defence for the community
Patrick Assuah, the Assembly Member for the Ankobra electoral area, has appealed to the government to urgently mount a sea defence wall and construct proper gutters in the Ankobra-Sanwoma Community to address serious tidal waves that have displaced residents.
According to him, the situation had become unbearable as some parts of the town were usually submerged in severe floods every now and then.
Assuah expressed these sentiments in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Ankobra in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
When the GNA visited the banks of the River Ankobra, there was evidence of a spill over from the River Ankobra when the sea surged.
He said if the situation continued, the entire town could be flooded, leading to loss of lives and property.
Assuah alleged that “there has been a spill-over of the sea from the shores of Axim due to the sea defence project, which urgently calls for a continuation of the project on the shores of Ankobra.
He appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to raise the alarm for the government to embark upon a defence wall project to forestall any calamity in the town.
