Paramount Chief of Avatime Traditional Area, Osie Adza Tepkor VII, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for upgrading the Ohawu Agricultural College in the Volta Region into a campus of the University of Engineering and Agricultural Science.

According to him, the initiative demonstrates the President’s determination to raise the profile of the Volta Region while creating opportunities for young people across Ghana to acquire the skills needed to expand the agricultural industry.

He noted that the move would help increase productivity for both local consumption and exports.

He further explained that the establishment of the Ohawu campus could help revive the cultivation of key economic crops, such as cocoa, coffee, oil palm, coconut, banana, and rice, which have declined in recent years.

He also described the campus as the latest in a series of upgraded institutions in the Volta Region, following similar interventions for the University of Allied and Health Sciences (UHAS), Ho Technical University, and the Ho Teaching Hospital.

PRESIDENT MAHAMA DESERVES REMARKABLE COMMENDATION FOR UPGRADING OHAWU AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE INTO A UNIVERSITY

As a traditional leader and development advocate, I join my colleague patriots to extend a well-deserved commendation to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for upgrading the Ohawu Agricultural College in the Volta Region into a campus of the University of Engineering and Agricultural Science.

This initiative demonstrates the determination of the President not only to raise the bar of the Volta Region, but also to provide opportunities for the youth in the region and other parts of Ghana to develop their talents with the relevant proficiency required to expand the growth of the agricultural industry, aiming at increasing productivity for the local market and exports.

Sincerely, it would also lead to the rapid decline in the cultivation of potential economic crops such as cocoa, coffee, oil palm, coconut, banana, mountainous organic brown rice, and other cereals and vegetables that hitherto served as a worthy source of income to farmers.

Besides, the creation of the Ohawu campus as an institution of higher learning is the latest upgraded institution in the Volta Region, following similar novelty intervention for the University of Allied and Health Sciences (UHAS), Ho Technical University, Ho Teaching Hospital, among other state establishments.

It is, however, my expectation that the President considers, as a matter of urgency, the rehabilitation of roads within the Avatime enclave, including Avatime Fume to Gbadzeme as well as Avatime Amedzofe town roads and roads connecting Amedzofe to Kpedze and Avatime Vane and to Avatime Dzogbefeme to boost the area’s tourism and other socio-economic interventions.

I urge eligible Ghanaian candidates, particularly in the Volta Region, to take advantage of the newly upgraded Ohawu Campus of the University of Engineering and Agricultural Science to develop their professional capacities to enable them to be rightly positioned in the job market.

OSIE ADZA TEKPOR VII

PARAMOUNT CHIEF OF AVATIME
