The laws of Ghana do not give any chief the power to declare a citizen persona non grata. It is shameful that in a constitutional democracy, elected leaders, state institutions, and the judiciary can sit back while some traditional authorities act as though they are above the Constitution.

No chief has the authority to strip a Ghanaian of their rights, freedoms, or dignity. The Constitution guarantees equal rights and liberties to all citizens, and any action that undermines those rights is an attack on our democracy.

If we continue to tolerate this kind of lawlessness simply because it is wrapped in tradition, we are creating a dangerous precedent. Today it may be one person being banished or rejected; tomorrow it could become a wider conflict. Ghana must choose the rule of law over intimidation before things get out of hand.
