Correspondence from the Eastern Region

The Agona Kwanyako Traditional Area in the Central Region is set to witness a historic transformation this weekend as renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr Richard Asiedu, is formally installed as the Nkosuohene (Development Chief) of the area.

In a significant departure from honorary titles, the Traditional Council has announced that this chieftaincy has been created as a permanent stool.

This ensures that the title of Nkosuohene will remain within Dr Asiedu’s family and lineage in perpetuity, cementing his bloodline’s role in the governance and development of the area.

Under the stool name Nana Asiedu Keteke I, the installation ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Agona Kwanyako Durbar Grounds.

A Legacy of Service and Statesmanship

The elevation of Dr Asiedu to this permanent position is seen by many as a formal recognition of a lifetime dedicated to national and local progress. Known for his "midas touch" in the educational and entrepreneurial sectors, Dr. Asiedu has long been a pillar of support for the vulnerable.

Beyond his business success, he has earned a reputation as a seasoned statesman. His ability to navigate complex social crises and mediate deep-seated conflicts has made him a respected figure across the country. In Kwanyako, his philanthropic gestures—ranging from infrastructure support to providing scholarships—have already laid a foundation for the "Nkosuo" (Development) he is now tasked to lead.

Empowering the Next Generation

A central theme of Dr Asiedu’s vision is the socio-economic liberation of the youth. As a titan of industry, he has consistently championed youth empowerment, creating hundreds of jobs and mentoring young professionals to take charge of the Ghanaian economy.

Ahead of his installation, Nana Asiedu Keteke I has sent a strong clarion call to the youth of Agona Kwanyako. He urged them to eschew social vices and instead position themselves to take advantage of the industrial and educational opportunities he intends to bring to the traditional area.

"Development is a partnership," a source close to the new chief noted. "Nana intends to build the capacity of the youth so they can be the primary drivers of Kwanyako's growth."

The Installation Ceremony

The event promises to be a grand display of Agona culture and prestige. The ceremony will be chaired by HRM Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, Board Chairman of the Water Resources Commission, with Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, attending as the Guest of Honour.

The installation of Nana Asiedu Keteke I marks a new chapter for Agona Kwanyako—one where tradition meets modern development, and where a permanent stool now stands as a beacon of hope for generations to come.
