Nana Kwabena Okyere, the Mmratehene of Ayanfuri, a mining town in the Central Region, has reportedly lost his life after a shooting incident on May 9, 2026.
According to reports, the traditional ruler lost his life after succumbing to injuries he sustained when he accidentally shot himself while performing at a funeral ceremony.
A video of the incident showed the chief happily dancing while holding what looked like a pump-action gun.

He could be seen brandishing the gun and making various gestures with it as another man sprayed cash on him.
At one point, he pointed the gun at his chest and could be seen occasionally pressing the trigger, but the gun did not fire.
He then racked the fore-end of the gun backwards and forwards before pointing it at his shoulder again.
This time around, after he pulled the trigger, the gun fired. The bullet appeared to have hit his chest, forcing him to the ground.
The video showed the injured chief being carried away from the event. The report indicated that he was rushed to a nearby health facility but succumbed to his injuries.
