The District Chief Executive for Bosomtwe, Abdulai Hamidu, says there are no illegal mining activities around Lake Bosomtwe.
According to him, the recent illegal mining activities being tackled are occurring in Beposo, a community located about 15 kilometres away from the lake.
Speaking to OTEC News reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng on Monday, the DCE said dozens of excavators have been seized by authorities as part of efforts to clamp down on galamsey in the area.
“We have about 20 communities around the lake, and I can say for a fact that no form of illegal mining is happening in any of these communities,” he said.
“Even Beposo, the community we are referring to, has been a mining community for years. However, we are there because our intelligence revealed some illegal activities there.”
He noted that the seized excavators have been sent to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, with investigations ongoing to ensure that perpetrators are prosecuted.
He pledged that the assembly will continue to do everything possible to protect the lake from any illegal mining activities.
