Benkum Senior High School (BENKUM SHS), Larteh Akuapem, has been crowned the Overall Best School at the maiden CODEAVOUR 7.0 National Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Coding Competition, marking a historic milestone for the school and the Eastern Region.
The prestigious national competition, organised by the Ghana Education Service (GES) through its National STEM Resource Unit in collaboration with CKBS (The Robotics Masters), brought together some of Ghana's most talented young innovators to showcase their creativity, programming skills, and technological innovations.
The two-day event, held from June 27 to 28, 2026, at Methodist Girls' Senior High School, Akuapem-Mamfe, assembled selected senior high schools from across the country to compete in robotics, coding, artificial intelligence, and project-based innovation.
According to the official invitation issued by the Ghana Education Service on May 8, 2026, CODEAVOUR 7.0 is an international Artificial Intelligence, Coding and Robotics competition designed to expose learners to emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), coding, and robotics.
The programme also seeks to develop critical 21st-century competencies such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving through experiential learning.
Benkum SHS was among the selected schools invited to participate in the national competition. Other participating schools included Methodist Girls' Senior High School, Mamfe; Aburi Girls' Senior High School; Koforidua Senior High Technical School; Pope John's Senior High School and Minor Seminary; Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon); Labone Senior High School; and Achimota Senior High School.
Competing against some of the nation's leading STEM-oriented schools, Benkum SHS distinguished itself through exceptional innovation, technical excellence, creativity, teamwork, and the effective application of coding and robotics concepts. The school's outstanding performance earned it the coveted title of Overall Best School.
The school was represented by Lawrencia Tamatey, Teye Carroll Tetteh, Amaokohene Zakiah Jecobed, Quansah Linda, Woode Nhyira Evelyn, Amanfo Derick Nana, Ainoo Michael Akuffo, Dzaka Caleb Kekeli, Ampofo George Kwesi, Asante Gilbert Asa, Prince Ofori, and Anku Stephanie.
The remarkable achievement highlights Benkum SHS's growing reputation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and demonstrates the school's commitment to nurturing innovative thinkers capable of solving real-world challenges through technology.
The victory is also a proud moment for the Eastern Region and serves as a testament to the dedication of the school's management, teachers, mentors, coaches, and students, whose collective efforts culminated in this historic national success.
Speaking after the competition, members of the school community expressed gratitude to the Ghana Education Service, the National STEM Resource Unit, and CKBS (The Robotics Masters) for creating a national platform that empowers students to develop practical technological solutions while preparing them for the future of work.

Following its remarkable triumph, Benkum Senior High School is now poised to represent Ghana on the international stage as it prepares to compete against top schools from other countries in the next phase of the CODEAVOUR 7.0 International Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Coding Competition.
The school's qualification underscores the quality of its STEM education and its readiness to showcase Ghanaian innovation and talent before a global audience.
The team was trained by Kwabena Ansah (Head of the IT Department), Appawu Gyamfi Gideon, Evans Odjam Djimatey, Asamoah Peter, Osei-Nyarko Timothy, Asante Dwamena Larry, Deborah Oppong Antwi, and Prince Antwi, all of whom served as coaches from the IT Department.
The Headmaster of the school, Enock Ampofo, praised the students for their outstanding achievement.
He stated that, as the nation's CODEAVOUR champions, Benkum Senior High School has firmly established itself as one of Ghana's leading centres of excellence in robotics and technological innovation.
The BOSA Executive Committee, comprising President Prof. Daniel Adu Ankrah, Vice-President Frederick Safo Appiah, Secretary Victoria Cornelia Quanor, Financial Secretary Gideon Appawu Gyamfi, Treasurer Ernestina Oye, and Public Relations Officers Francis Owusu Hansen and George Offei Ntow Snr (National Organiser), has pledged to mobilise members of the association to support the students as they prepare to represent Ghana on the global stage.
The association expressed confidence that this achievement presents an excellent opportunity for prospective students to choose Benkum SHS as their preferred senior high school, citing its growing reputation for excellence in STEM education and innovation.
