Education Ministry to hold national conference on indiscipline in SHSs

The Ministry of Education will on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, open a two-day National Conference on Stemming Indiscipline in Senior High Schools in Sunyani.

The conference will bring together key stakeholders in the education sector to discuss practical and sustainable measures to address indiscipline in Ghana’s second-cycle institutions.

Ahead of the conference, the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, held a strategic meeting with members of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) to assess the state of discipline in senior high schools.

The meeting also focused on the collective responsibility of school authorities, teachers, parents and other stakeholders in promoting discipline, character development and academic excellence.

The national conference is expected to bring together education administrators, teachers, students, parents, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations, security agencies and development partners.

Participants will examine the causes of indiscipline in senior high schools and propose practical interventions to address the challenge.

The recommendations from the conference will form the basis of a comprehensive policy paper to guide the Ministry of Education in developing a coordinated national framework to tackle indiscipline and promote values-based education.

The Ministry said the conference is expected to contribute to the creation of safer, more disciplined and academically conducive learning environments for students across the country.
