'No true prophet predicts football scores' – St Sark

The General Overseer of Open Arms Ministry, St. Sark, has criticised Ghana’s religious and sports fraternity, insisting that no genuine man of God should issue prophecies about football matches.

The outspoken preacher also took aim at Sports Minister Kofi Adams, accusing him of relying on spiritual predictions rather than adopting proactive and practical measures to manage the country’s sporting affairs.

Addressing a press conference at his church auditorium, St. Sark expressed frustration over the failed prophecies that preceded Ghana’s recent FIFA World Cup campaign, arguing that such predictions have brought shame to the Christian faith and exposed what he described as false prophets.

He singled out Kofi Adams for criticism over his high-profile visit to the church of popular preacher Adom Kyei-Duah prior to the World Cup, questioning the minister’s reliance on spiritual backing for what he described as a tactical and administrative responsibility.

“I asked why Kofi Adams went there and for what purpose. Is Adom Kyei a true prophet or clergy? He himself has revealed it live on TV that he’s not. I told them he is not, and you all saw what eventually happened,” St. Sark said.

He argued that leadership in sports requires competence, planning and proactive administration, warning that seeking prophetic intervention for football matches reflects misplaced priorities and could lead to disappointment.

“God has nothing to do with football; a game that is full of spells (juju) and many other ungodly acts,” he said.

Emphasising what he considers to be the true purpose of the prophetic ministry, St. Sark insisted that genuine servants of God are called to preach repentance and salvation rather than predict scorelines or match outcomes.

“No true prophet of God will come out to predict football scorelines. If you are a prophet, football is not your assignment. I said it before the World Cup that God is not concerned about football, and the Church has no business predicting match results. Those who predicted football results were lying because God has nothing to do with football,” he said.

He further noted that modern football is heavily influenced by commercial interests, technology and gambling, making it inappropriate, in his view, for ministers of the gospel to attach God’s name to match predictions.

St. Sark also challenged media organisations across the country to exercise editorial discretion and stop providing platforms to individuals who make football prophecies.

According to him, giving airtime to such claims could mislead the public, create unnecessary national anxiety and damage the credibility of the Church.

“The media must stop entertaining these so-called prophecies because they only bring embarrassment,” he urged.
