Erect overhead walkways across highways. Mark out crosswalks. Educate pedestrians and motorists on road safety rules. It's too dangerous driving in Accra, especially at night.

My dear Frankie, these are my thoughts too but with our corrupt Politicians and systems, this cannot be done that easily. If it were to be the time of Efo Julor John Rawlings at the AFRC time, this could have been done but not during his PNDC and NDC time. When I visit Ghana sometimes, I wonder when our Politicians and people can do things right. Just imagine how Efo Julor John Rawlings, the Anti Corruption campaigner and Boakye Djan and the rest of the PNDC and his NDC became horribly corrupt.
I sometimes think a lot about Ghana but never intend to return and live there. I have even Willed not to be buried there because my Grave will be looted and desecrated. I pass by some cemeteries in Uncle Sam's country that over three hundred years old but are beautifully maintained and always periodically adorned. Can we say that about Ghana? Imagine the number of times some Graves are looted and desecrated. This is a big shame to us and our country.

Hmmmmm. The cause of the accident will be certainly attributed to the USUAL BRAKE FAILURE even when he was over speeding and driving erratically. Do vehicles in Ghana really go for real Road Worthy Test? I am asking because I am a Ghanaian, drove when I was underage, I never took my vehicle for a Road Worthy Test. Yet my vehicle was always qualified to be Road Worthy. But you can't blame the Drivers and Vehicle Owners. If you don't pay your way through but want a real Road Worthy Test, then you can't be serious because no matter how Road Worthy your vehicle is, it will never pass the test. That is the situation we grew up in and we are not prepared to change.
There is nothing like Overloaded vehicles on our roads. There is also nothing like Over speeding. Some Drivers compete on the roads as to who can speed more. And some passengers contribute to over speeding by asking Drivers to even Hurry Up. Some passengers decide sometimes not to board a particular vehicle because the Driver is not fast enough.
I have mentioned it on this forum that certain vehicles like OKADA and some Motorcycles should not be allowed on our Highways. In Uncle Sam's country, certain Motorcycles are never allowed on the Highway, especially the Interstate Highways. As for OKADA, they don't exist. Even if they did, they will never be used to carry passengers and can never be on any Highway. But in a corrupt country like Ghana where the Police and managers are so corrupt, how do you enforce any such ban. I went to visit Tamale quite recently when I visited Ghana. I was surprised to find out that Wooden Mummy Trucks are still used as Passenger Vehicles. But sometimes, there is nothing that can be done. Some Vehicle Owners will never allow their vehicles to play some roads because they are terribly bad. I have driven from Hohoe to Dumbai and I regretted it. The road is horribly bad and it becomes dangerous to use it when it rains. On a more serious note, OKADA should never be allowed on our First and Second Class roads. They should not even be allowed to carry passengers. Wooden Mummy Trucks should also not be used to carry passengers. We don't live in the Stone Age. Hmmmmm. The problem is how can this be enforced at Afram Plains and on the many neglected roads that we have in the countryside? Ghana Politicians should stop thinking about themselves and how they can inflate cost of projects just to steal from the country. They should always remember that they can be greedy and steal from the country but it is their family and tribespeople who suffer in the final analysis.

Drivers of OKADA should know how to drive even locally.

I think Drivers involved in such accidents should be tested for Drugs and Alcohol Tests at three different places and if it turns up to be positive, then the Driver can be incarcerated for many decades. Our Politicians are not helping and we are becoming increasingly careless and reckless.
