Basiera Saankara declares bid for NDC National Youth Organizer position

Upper West Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Basiera Saankara, has officially declared his intention to contest the position of National Youth Organizer of the party.

Saankara, who announced his decision at a gathering of party executives, youth leaders and supporters, said his more than two decades of active service to the NDC had prepared him to lead the party’s youth wing at the national level.

He pointed to his experience in grassroots mobilisation, local government and party administration, noting that his journey had taken him from Assembly Member and Presiding Member to District Chief Executive and subsequently Regional Youth Organizer.

According to him, his record in youth mobilisation, governance and empowerment gives him the experience needed to lead what he described as the “Green Army” of the NDC youth.

Saankara commended the current national youth leadership, led by Lawyer George Opare Addo, Lawyer Osman Ayariga and Ruth Seddor, for their contributions to the development of the youth wing and pledged to build on their achievements while addressing existing gaps.

“Our story is not ours alone. It is built on the sacrifices and contributions of past national youth leaders: Hon. E.T. Mensah, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Comrade Ludwig Hlodze, Comrade Sidii Abubakar, Hon. Kofi Adams, Comrade Kobby Barlon, Lawyer Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, Comrade Eric Edem Agbana, and many others whose footprints we follow and whose examples continue to inspire us.”

He said his vision was to build a united, inclusive and well-resourced youth wing firmly rooted in the grassroots.

“Leadership is not about tenuous promises; it is about solid records. My record is one of service, of organising, of grassroots leadership, and of unwavering commitment to the NDC,” he said.

Saankara appealed to constituency youth leaders, TEIN members, regional executives and delegates across the country to support his bid, promising to make youth empowerment and effective grassroots organisation central to his leadership.

He said the NDC youth remained the “heartbeat” of the party and expressed confidence that a stronger and better-organised youth wing would help position the party for victory in future elections.

“I come with confidence but not arrogance. I come with courage but not boastfulness. I come with experience but also in humility. Above all, I come with the conviction that the NDC Youth Wing must be united, inclusive, and firmly rooted in the grassroots.”

“I have served. I am ready to serve again,” he declared.
