DD, Ghanaians are serious people if you did not know. What madam Bulley and the PP and others are advocating for is good for society. A woman cannot give birth and go back to work after three months. She needs to rest and heal her body. There's nowhere in the US that a woman gives birth and goes back to work after 3 days.

I live in Canada where women take a year off after they give birth. Men also take up to four months off as well to be and bound with the kids. Are you saying that Canadians are not serious too? Would you like your wife or sister to go back to work three days after she gives birth?

I agree with you. I think that they should even ask for one year. Most of the people who are complaining about it are men and as such do not have the concept of what child birth can entail.

If it is 6 month without pay than it is ok. Ghana uses 60% of her productivity to pay workers. and now we want people to be paid for six month for giving birth. I will be ok if people are give one year leave without pay.

I am assuming that you are male and therefore, do not understand child birth. 3 days is insufficient to return to work. Even if there are no complications, what about nurturing and bonding with one's child? Nursing the child ...

Am on maternity leave and will go back to work in a 9 months time in Canada n on USA I'd the same so why r some people lying about people going to work in 2 n 3 weeks time

Not when you want your job back. Let's be realistic, you only get more than 6 weeks in USA if you have more vacation hours. Don't talk about things you don't know.

we always want to be like USA, GERMANY, UK and they are there talking about six month pay off for giving birth. My boss gave birth and the third day she is at work. What sought of nonsense is this.

The most people get in US is 6 weeks, and Ghanaians want 6 months? Talk of productivity...smh. Wake up Ghana, we are not getting anywhere with this kind of attitude.

Having children is a choice families make and the financial repercussions of such decisions should be thought out fully before indulging one self.Our country should learn from the dependency mentality that has evolved into many European Nations burning their cities down because their governments CANNOT meet the unfunded liabilities that are well entrenched in their respective economies yet are demanded as "a right" for citizens.
Not to sound callous,our nation should heed the clarion calls of countries that are now embroidered in ultimate chaos because of promises made that can no longer be met due to strained economic conditions.
If we just do things because other nations have done it without taking into consideration the unintended consequences,we would end up like Greece,Italy,Spain,Britain,France.
Its irresponsible for the advocacy of fiscal splurging when we see all around us how governments are scrambling to keep order because of decisions taken by previous administration that have come back home to haunt.
As I said earlier, having children is a decision that ought to be taken seriously without vicariously involving other fellow citizens to chip in.

The official period for Maternity leave in the U.S.is 12 weeks WITHOUT PAY. People choose to go back to work a few weeks or days after delivery because of economic reasons.
