Reading writing of English language must not be a requisite for knowing. Our local language should be stressed.

We call on foreign companies to help arrest the problems, after state money is chopped nyafu-nyafu. Sundays and every free time is used for praying. The rich praising God, the poor crying on God. AllelluJa.
Of course in my day there was a serious cult of reading local languages, and we read. Today they give the young ones Bibles when they know nothing about Ghana.

Maybe University of Ghana will give its lectures in Ga, right? Non-Ga speaking students will have to learn Ga as a "foreign" language. So you see the sense in learning a wider spoken language?

In my school days we had them free. But there was also the schools library scheme with books from the Ghana National Library Board. Today what is happening at the Accra Library? It is as if the Sahara Desert had caught us up in Accra.
Meanwhile like colonial evangelists in Ghana, Bibles are still shared freely by even First Mothers of the nation. The cost which could be used to renovate the Library Houses.
The dumsor plague apart, poor living spaces, no lights at home, it would be good if parents contribute to bring light to the various schools in their communities. But lo, ungrateful Ghanaians are not blessed enough, that school buildings have all become churches and places of prayers for parents and seniors. There they prefer to use candles instead of an innovation to bring in electric lights for their school kids, and themselves. Talking about dwindling reading culture, this what the religious Pastors, class two teachers have to offer.
But, I mean I have conversed with a man doing his masters here Germany who said he never read "books written by other people" . . . They are here plenty, who could hardly express anything good in English!

I do, nonetheless, agree that one should read widely to develop language skills.
