Be the jittery Minister of Local Govt & Rural Development,who may be trying hard to save his job in the rumoured cabinet reshuffle! I listened to the interview he grant Adom FM`s Dwaso Nsem Show this morning in which he had such a difficult time rationalizing his decision to sanction the DCE. Now if I were the DCE, I would quit and tell the Min to shove that post where the sun does not shine! This Minister,perhaps peeved at the instant popularity of Mr Barima, who could possibly be his senior in terms of age,reacted angrily to a harmless comments he made to set the record straight. But the Minister listened to a doctored version played on air,and then went to town on this humble gentleman who had been insulted, in the first place, by public health-care workers who had reacted very rudely to a well-intention admonition by the DCE to these officials to be courteous in their dealings with patients! Now,given the context in which this whole brouhaha ensued,should the DCE rather not be commended? Was he the originator of the "TWEAA" cat phrase or epithet? Was Pres. JDM not having a ball with the this joke only week ago,in Parliament,of all places? And so,what is this minister`s beef really?
I have said that a lot of the appointees in the current administration,and even the President himself,do not know how to pick 'political fights'! When the Flastaff House had just about everybody behind the govt against the contemptious UG authorities, that had openly disregarded its request for dialogue on the setting up of toll booths on university roadways,the President literally 'froze'till he was saved by his National Security Advisor,who then came out as a bad guy;why?
Let`s face it,is this a subject matter this minister himself be granting interviews on,when he could be working on major policy reforms that would transfom our local govt system? He should devote more time to uncovering the embarrassing rot prevalent at many co-ordinating secretariats directly under his control!
