If they really want to collect their monies, they should start with the politicians of both NDC & NPP. They will be shocked at the number of culprits. The politicians use their various positions to connect illegally at their private homes so that when they are out of power, they can still enjoy SOME freebees.

ECG can announce a package just like the police do. Three months free electricity for anyone who can point out the politicians. By the way, ECG knows the politicians both past and present are having it free so what's the point!

Most of the companies who supply water via tankers are either employed by Water Company Ltd or their associates.

ECG, like every one institution, cannot understand the very linkages between decisions they make and the negative effect those decision may have on their daily operations. How do internet service providers track and find when services are being rendered unofficially or some of their bandwidth is dissipating into thin air? The ECG is the very same entity that accepted improperly calibrated electric meters manufactured in China for use in Ghana care of a Kufour son even if those crap had a potential to become source of hardship on most consumers in Ghana. ECH chose to invest in meaningless items instead of pursuing effective and efficiency in the production and delivery of service. Stealing is nothing new to Ghana; our culture lives and breath corruption and people get to become heroes because they steal and are not caught; see Kufour, J.J. Rawlings and all the politicians of yesteryear and now we love because they are rich and not because they did a darn thing for Ghana. Invest in line sniffers with monitoring capacity so seepage can be detected and detected immediately.

This is not rocket science, you can find out by process of elimination, I would think they know who the legal ones are because they maintain their accounts so the rest you disconnect and take them to court to be fined or whatever punishment on the books. Meter tampering is easy to figure out since ECG should know average use of households and if the usage is consistently below expected then they would need to physically check that household's meter.Also they need to switch to wiring the meter to the grid, which means people don't come to the house to read meters but is done from the ECG office, this will stop the meter tampering.

PLEASE, MR. PRESIDENT, START FROM TODAY AND THINK ABOUT THIS PROPOSAL AND INSTEAD OF CHASING PEOPLE TO PAY THEIR TAXES, IT WILL BE EASIER TO COLLECT FROM THE PRIVATE CORPORATIONS WITH PRIVATE WATCHDOGS WHOSE EXISTENCE OR HAVING A JOB THEMSELVES, DEPENDS ON HOW WELL THEY PERFORM.

Is it not rather the case that it takes ECG more that two years to start issueing bills even when a house has been legaly connected. If you do not issue bills, how do you earn revenue.

This is very poor management and it is all because they get paid whether the company runs well or not.

CAN ECG EXPLAIN TO THE WHOLE GHANAIANS WHY TOPING UP A PRE-PAID FOR GHc50, WENT ON WEEK-END(FRIDAY - SUNDAY EVENING).EVERYTHING WAS TURN OFF, INCLUDING THE FRIDGE. ON MY RETURN, THERE WAS HO POWER LEFT. WHERE DID THE GHc50 TOP-UP GO TO? BACK TO ECG?

POWER HAS TO USED FOR IT TO BE TOP-UP. IF POWER WAS NOT BEING USED WHERE DOES IT DISAPPEAR TO ? That is what happens when the Owner/Distributor relinquishes its role of supplying, installing and maintaining the supply lines to the customer. How can ECG and Ghana Water Company expect people to lay their own lines from their homes to the supply line before connecting them and not expect illegal connections along the way? When the utility supplier does not even know where the supply line is laid, how can he know if ten people tap into it along the way, or if there is a leakage that is draining the commodity and wasting it? How can you control your commodity when you have absolutely, no control over your product supply process?

In advanced nations, (and they are not better wiser than us), the utility companies come to survey the area and determine how much it will cost to supply the potential customer and bills him. The customer pays, and the Company supplies and on time. Under no condition can a customer lay his/her own supply line. The supply line is a property of the Company, even though the customer pays for its laying.

The company has strict guidelines for laying the supply lines and they are carefully and judiciously guarded. No one has the right to dig out a line to repair it except the company or its agent.

The company maintains a map of the distribution grid and so they know exactly where every line is, at any time and so they can detect any pressure loss due to leakage and can respond to it swiftly. It's all because every leakage is money lost. There is more to say, but I will end here and wait for a full article in the daily newspapers, hoping to incite a healthy discussion on the subject.

Because, I believe that no one should be given the top position as Executive Director of any of the two companies who is not prepared to tackle these problems. And no company should be given any raise without any serious program to solve its basic problems like the supply lines.

And finally, until ECG/GWC are ready to aggressively tackle employee involvement in all these illegal connections, there will be no headway in this matter. But the question is: How can they tackle the employee problem when management is all hands and feet raping the companies?Something to think about.

ECG OFFICIALS ARE THE CAUSE. ONE CAN INFORM THEM OF ILLEGAL CONNECTION BUT WOULD NOT MIND. I HAVE CALLED THEM SEVERAL TIMES TO COME AND DEAL WITH ONE IN MY HOUSE TO NO AVAIL.
