  Telling people to rid their means of living for a day, week or month is the stupidest thing I've heard anybody say. He is definitely pocketing any remittance the World Bank and Burkina Faso is giving Ghana for the hardship endured by the affected people for him to come out and utter these nonsense. It should have been designed to spill into Burkina Faso, but if it had to spill downhill during the feasibility study, then Ghana should have been alerted then and not yearly when they have to relieve the pressure. Mr. Portuphy should go to work and do something for the affected people, near term and long term. If this is our national coordinator, them it tells all about why the country is under duress. He has no clue what he is supposed to do. Stupid fool in charge of national disaster management.

  We could have built a network of irrigation canals to distribute the spillage into profitable farming projects.
  
  Given the sporadic nature of rainfall in the Northern and Upper Regions, such a canal network would be a great source of reliable water to support our Agricultural ventures in the area.
  
  No single concrete reservoir may be able to catch the spillage in its entirety. However, a huge artificial Lake could be dug in the driest part of the area to lead the spillage into it via a well-constructed channel.
  
  Such a project would need huge funding but I think we have the architectural expertise to accomplish that ourselves.
  
  Meanwhile, what compensation did the affected locals received for the loss of lives and property from the 2007 spillage? If they did not receive anything, it would be appropriate for the Sole Commissioner looking into judgment debts, Justice Appau, to look into what happened and recommend restitution for the Citizens run over by the spillage.

  Gathering water in one place and releasing it to destroy life and property in another country is unacceptable. It is not an unforeseen event. The planning of the dam should have been done with a clear idea of how they are going to manage excessive water. Ghana shd have been consulted on the matter but instead they are treating us with the same contempt shown by the white man. A net work of canals will only work if there is collaboration between the two countries as the canals have to have clearly defined channels from borkena as well as regular supply of water especially in the dry season. At the moment, the dams are opened during the raining season when we need it the least

  I thought theys aid the Akosombo Dam`s reservoir is drying up?So why don`t they try and find a way and direct this spillage into the Dam there?Or do we need the IMF to tell us this one too?

  These annual spills are occurring because Burkina is holding back more water than it needs to and then let's all the excess out at the same time, which results in the floods.
  
  If they will plan properly and base the water retention on their expected usage, rain forecasts, etc., the excess water can be allowed to flow out of the lake gradually throughout the year, instead of in this life endangering and property destroying madness.
  
  I hope they pay compensation to the affected Ghanaians. The Ghana government should not sit passively and allow Burkina to go through this destructive annual ritual. The two governments must work together to eliminate the threat this practice poses to lives and property. If this is not done, it could result in a future conflict because it is unacceptable for Burkina to develop its economy at the expense of life and property in Ghana.

We are waiting for some White foreigners to start utilizing these resources before we wake up and START STRIKING AND STRIKING TO GET A SMALL BIT OF OUR OWN PROPERTIES WHICH WE HAVE THROWN TO THE DOGS, ONLY TO BE COLLECTED AND RECYCLED AND SOLD TO US AT CUT-THROAT PRICES!
