LOOKING AT THE LOCATION (CENTRE) OF GHANA. I BELIEVE KINTAMPO WOULD BE IDEAL. IT WOULD BE EASIER TO PROPERLY PLAN AND DEVELOP THE PLACE. IT WOULD BE EASIER FOR EVERYBODY SINCE IT IS CENTRALLY LOCATED

Hawa, it is not where the capital is but the people. If move the capital to a developed and beautiful place and fill it with people who cannot maintain it beauty you will have the same problems we are having in accra today

This is so true. We Ghanaians do not seem to make the connection that the way we litter and let garbage pile up is a reflection of a lack of pride as a people. Walk in certain areas of Accra and not only do you have to hold your nose because of the smell, but your surroundings are filthy and disgusting.It is embarassing and unsanitary. You see people selling food over a gutter that is choked with rubbish. Where is our sense of hygiene and pride?
We cannot blame the government for the filth. I was once told to take my foreign ideas and go when I suggested that someone put their garbage in a garbage can that was not far away instead of dropping it on the ground. We need to change our way of thinking and preserve the environment for future generations. One area of Accra made it onto a list of the most polluted areas in the world. This is a shame.

Can you really blame people for doing things they do not know are wrong? This coconut seller is at best a JSS dropout. He has no idea that he shouldn't be doing what he is doing. Once we declare a war on under-education and illiteracy and make sure that every Ghanaian has quality education, most of these problems will vanish. The filth we live in is a symptom of our lack of education.

The City Of Accra has regulations to ensure that such irresponsibility does not go on, but never enforces its own codes and ordinances. This is nothing compared to the heaps of rubbish in Accra that burn every day, emitting smoke from burning tires and other hazardous waste, and people end up inhaling those toxic fumes. We have too many educated fools in government whose sole priorities are mainly thievery and building expensive homes from looted funds, and could care less about nation-building. The government agencies responsible for enforcing proper sanitation within the city carry the greater blame for watching this go on for many decades now. The AMA must enforce its sanitation regulations, and will do so only if residents call that Authority daily to complain until they get off their rear-ends and do their work.

Of course both Parliament as law maker and Government as law enforcer are responsible for the situation. We can appeal on the goodwill of the Coconutseller who as a bussinessman/woman is maximising his/her profit at the expense of the society.

I saw a documentary on Malaysia where coconut husks like these are collected on a large scale, and then dried and burnt to make charcoal. I know the answer already, but I have to ask the question. Why not in Ghana?
