Akos for ur information, there are so many nations on this planet that pays allowances to their students. One of them is the UK. Even at the basic level, they pay the children weekly maintenance fee just for going to school. It used to be 40pounds a week per child. But I don't know how much they pay now. In so many countries students are paid bursaries for perusing programs towards keys jobs. So pls if u are ignorant of certain facts, just ask or find it out on the Internet before u display ur ignorance. I'm also in favour of government putting an end to these allowances since those areas are no longer in shortage. But let's always comment on issues we know not wat we don't know.

does it means that if USA government is not paying their student nurses Ghana government shouldn't. probably, USA students can afford to their educational expenses while Ghana student cannot. this tells how fortunate we are in Ghana, yet we don't appreciate things. what is disturbing after graduating, they don't even want to serve the nation and their own families. go to hospital in Ghana and see how bad nurses are treating patients, its unbelievable.

One is a developed Country, the Other is not.In the USA, if you take a loan you pay it off when you are done with school, and you start working, if you can afford not to take loan, you DON'T, plain and simple. There is poverty in Ghana so some of these student nurses depend on it for their very survival. They are working at the same time school, for your information a hospital education (nursing) is demanding as compared to the University where they get to go to the hospitals once a week (my time) to have their clinicals. Be Objective people.

This can only happen in Ghana because the students do not know their rights. The Union are not strong enough to defend them win or put a case against the Govt.

Hi Aenski,
It's not about people not knowing their right, unless you were born in the US, or taken there at the age of 10 probably then you will know people do not have right in most developing countries. If you are asking these students to be ruthless about their right, the only way will be for them to vacate their positions, or be fired-YES FIRED, or be tagged as unrespectful. I was a nurse in Ghana-37 Military to be specific, and like the army Obey before Complain enabling people to corrupt the system, the nurses and midwives of Ghana is also another corrupt department with employees who take money from students and swap results for money, yet are never fired. Don't blame the students besides Aenski, if you trained in Ghana, you will know that when you travel, it does not automatically switch because you have a license from Ghana, you have to write your NCLEX, depending on what VISA, your transcripts must be verified, just to mention a few. It's not easy like people are made to believe, until you have cross a stream, do not stand back and say,"that stream is shallow"

It's not their right to receive those allowances, it's a privilege offered by the government to attract pple to attain higher education, therefore, the state has every right to withdraw these services whenever necessary.

This Yammin is such an idiot! If the nurses are not accepting posting to rural areas, why not advise the rural folks to move to Accra and Kumasi since the cities are all part of Ghana? Have lived in a rural area before? Why should they accept to stay in the rural areas when everything takes place in the cities?
