  It's about time to address this problem in Bongo. It's been known since we were kids but the government never bothered to address it or even talk about it. I hope someone finally does something for these people.

  This problem and other water and sanitation issues the officer narrated are not new. My concern is it appears these problems will never go away. For almost 40 years CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency), Ghana water & sewerage, as it used to be called, WaterAid, and a whole lot of other agencies have spent millions of dollars and man hours trying to solve the water and sanitation problems in this region, but all to no avail. In the early 1990s I worked with one of these agencies developing/rehailitating boreholes in the whole Upper east region, we also trained district watsan committees to facilitate/promote water, hygiene and sanitaion in the communities. Millions of dollars was put in this program. It appears nothing has worked so far. Still people defecate indiscriminately, don't take proper care of the boreholes, polluting the environment always, etc. In my view, change will only come when people comit to cahnge their behavior. As for the flouride issue, I leave it to the scientist.
