Those Asanteman chiefs and elders who are well versed in the Confederacy should gather courage from all fronts and advise Otumfour. The Kumawu case as he sees it can cause disintegration. Is he aware of the disintegration of USSR? Who ever thought about that. If he wants to continue to enjoy his title Otumfour which tile is only reserved for God, he must re-look at the way he has handled this Kumawu chieftancy case as well as others in the Ashanti Region.
A word to the wise is enough. Had I known is always at last.

As an Asante I have become concerned by the arbitrariness with which Asantehene deals with paramount area issues. The original nation states that formed the kingdom must have the right to determine who rules over them in the same way. Currently the transfer of title to any land in those areas does not need the consent of the Asantehene. Why is Otumfuo telling them who should be their leader?

People. Please don't pick on Asantehene. The rules of cases at Manhyia are normally run by the Amanhene and not Otumfuor although he has the final say but it is normally based on what all the Amanhene's say .

Otumfour knew very well that there was impending appeal case at the court, but as arrogant as he is, he walked over the laws of Ghana as if he is above the laws of our beloved Ghana. He disregarded the ashanti traditional protocol regarding chieftaincy enstoolment, in this regard, concerning plugging Yaw Sarfo there as the new Kumawuhene. He has no business in Kumawu affairs regarding who should be their chief.He is not a Kumawu citizen and he does not know their constitution.He should rather help bring peace to the Ashanti region rather than bring chaos.He is a mess.When did he become a judge, a lawyer and above all, above the constitution of Ghana, when so many people know his background when he was not a king.

All the time the people he appoint to see to the enstoolment sell the stool to the highest bidder rather than the right heir. This thing happen in my hometown. Abuakwa Apemhase stool has been given to a wrong person who is sell the land like he is mad. The right heir to the stools "Dabanka's" did not pay bribe to the king makers so they gave it to a stranger who was able to pay. They edited the video to make the other person look the right heir in the sight of Otumfou. These kingmakers are the problem their greediness is tarnishing the image of our cherished king and Kingdom. I have the answer to this problem let someone contact me. boatengis@yahoo.co.uk

If the Asante Confederacy has no such powers to decide, and the Asantehene also has no such authority, then who has the power of adjudication to settle such disputes in Asanteman?

In this case, therefore, would such cases be determined by the secular Courts, or Houses of Chiefs?

This is an historical lesson in our Traditions that we must pay close attention to.

Bawuah, I think you are unaware of the process involved in a confederacy, the powers therein and the history of Asante, especially the constitution bequeathed by Anokye Frempon. In that constitution it is clear that 1 of the Amanhene is the defacto leader of the entire confederation. In this case that 1 person is the Omanhene of Kumasi. It is also true that the selection of Omanhene is made by that town's elders in conjunction with the queen. There may or may not be a vote, it may or may not be unanimous. Once the choice is made and all the elders swear allegiance to the nominee, there is a 2nd swearing-in in front of the confederation head in Manhyia. Until this 2nd part is done, that local election is incomplete in as much as the allegiance at Manhyia is part of the recognition of the authority of Asantehene as the head of the confederation of which that local state is a constituent part. Of course the local state can choose to remove themselves from the confederation if they so wish (like Takyiman and Dormaa did in 1948), and in 2014 there will be no invasion to keep them in the kingdom. These local Kumawu elders files a court case to block the election after the queenmother had declared a choice, and it was thrown out. It is also not true that Asantehene cannot destool an Omanhene. The Kumawuhene Nana Kwatrefeni was destooled for cowardice by the Kotoko council (headed by Asantehene) by his conduct during a war and would have been executed was it not for the oath not to execute Kumawu royals from Tweneboa Kodua sacrifice before Denkyira war.

The swearing at Manhyia is just a formality. We serve the Golden stool and not the Asantehene. The Asantehene himself is just a servant to the stool. The Golden Stool is a national and not a state stool. Kumase as a state is not even second in command. Get it clear any Asante Adako-Oyoko is a direct Golden stool royal who qualifies to occupy it. When Obiri Yeboa died they asked Nsutahene to inherit his nephew but he rejected. When Osei Tutu died Adakos contested for the stool which led to Adako-Oyoko civil war. Kumase is neither the head of Adako/Oyoko clan nor do they have any exclusive right over the golden stool. Asantehene is not even the overlord in Kumase go and ask Aduaben (present Adontenhene of Kumase an Amantuo num state) who took the late Asantehene to court over a land dispute. There is even no Kumase stool since the Adakos took it along to Ivory Coast together with a lot of Osei Tutus regalia

Whenever a stool becomes 'vacant'there are usually several contestants within the ruling family .They are presented to the king -makers of that particular paramouncy who may then accept or reject a candidate.It is actually at this level where you find a lot of lobbying and a lot of bribery taking place.It is usually these king-makers who will take bribes from all angles(most often from more than one contestant)Most often they take more from the unqualified ones who are often disappointed because the local people who know their rigthtful leaders will reject such people.Those King-makers who have "chopped'bribes from such pretenders will then turn around to create the impression that they tried their best.I wont be surprised if these 3 chiefs are not trying to exenorate themselves after feeding fat on an unsuspecting contestant.
As for the threats of breaking away from the Asante kingdom these disgruntled chiefs must know that the Asante nation is not breakable ,all attempts in the past to dismantle the Asante nation failed dismally. MANY OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE WRITING IN SUPPORT OF A BREAK AWAY ARE EITHER NON ASANTES WHO ARE JEALOUS OF OUR HISTORY OR ARE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND ASANTE TRADITIONS.

That is another issue: The Asantehene can remove the stool from thier house . This becomes permanent as its not common for Asantehene to revoke the orders of thier predecessors.

This is usually done at Manhyia at Asanteman council. They can shout to the roof . I have seen of cases like Nyinahin, Fomena and many other in the days of Opoku Ware and the present King. These are not unilateral decision.
In the tradition these stools are called Osom Adwa because noble people are appointed to serve the king and in course of time if the individuals so appointed do well their family members are so rewarded to continue. The king therefore reserves the right to appoint other nobles to serve him .

The said destooled chiefs have the right to reject the queen mother's nomination in 3 chances.
Thirdly, the said chiefs can consult either the Kumawu or the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs requesting for copy of THE CHIEFTANCY QUESTIONNAIRE FORMS
