This whole nonsense was started by Kwame Nkrumah in the '60's where successive governments did not see anything wrong with and stop it. I remember very well in either 1960 or '61 when Nkrumah was on his way to Kulungugu in the Northern Region, school children were made to walk more than 5-miles by foot from remotest areas on the Nkawkaw - Kumasi Road to come and wave flags to Nkrumah's nonsense of showmanship.

This Independence cerebration parade by school children is to be scraped off completely. The Military, Police, Fire Service, Security Agencies and Organizations who are trained for such activities should mount such parades. If Civil Servants and Public workers who takes off and get paid for are not in a position to mount such parades, why do we subject school children to this useless ordeal? It is time to review our daily activities and see if they are all necessary in this 21st century. E&OE.
