My mum, her mum and my grand mum used baha(the dry bark of the plantain plant) and it did not cause them any problems.

Because all these comes with a cost. This is not an excuse for not going to school. I know people who can afford pads but choose not to use pad because the pad irritates them. Toilet roll cast 2 cedis and if your parents can't afford 2 cedis for a toilet roll then maybe they are not fit to be parent. In modern world, if you don't earn a living then you are not fit to be a parent because everything now is money.

Girls must be encouraged to use them and get their education if school fees are taken care of and they are fed and housed.
