  It is a shame that things have gotten to where they are now. People have become so selfish and self-seeking. No one pays attention to the real needs of the country and we continue to wallow in squalor and misery.

  Our leaders, governments and city officials don't really care about Accra floods and drainage system. Since Kwame Nkrumah no government has taken Accra floods serious. The topology should not be blamed because the floods are not caused by sea water ingress. Rather the rainwater from the mountains should be channeled properly to the sea. The government and AMA cannot envisage a solution to these natural phenomena. The sea level is not rising so don't blame the topology but water courses and lack of drains are the problems.

  One of the environmental problems Ghana is facing nowadays is that: our town & city planners are not up-to-date innovative to restructure what the British & Nkrumah left for Ghana in terms of town & city planning.
  
  There could've been a lot of changes to suit our tropical life style.
  
  For example: Sewerage & Drainage & Gutters.
  
  All the govt. after the both above did & does absolutely nothing about what we're talking about.
  
  But all of these town & city planners are graduates with PhDs etc & etc.... but yet still ....zero zero zero...

  Flooding in Accra has nothing to do with the topography of the city. It is the lack of planning and systematic development of the city that has allowed indiscriminate building in river courses that is to blame. In a situation where individuals buy lands from chiefs and individual families without any coordination, what should we expect? There are no areas demarcated for detention basins along the flood plain and people put up houses anywhere they can afford to buy without any recourse and that is one of the major causes.
