Bodomase (Ash), May 27, GNA - A youth group from Kumawu-Bodomase in Ashanti has expressed concern over findings by the Mfodwo Committee that investigated the recent Legon examination malpractices and the subsequent directive by the University Council, asking Vice Chancellor John Asenso-Okyere to proceed on leave.
The group said the committee's recommendations based on which the Vice Chancellor was asked to proceed on leave amounted to victimisation and politicisation of the issue.
Mr Victor Berchie, spokesman of the group, told the Ghana News Agency at Bodomase that members regarded the decision to ask the Vice-Chancellor, whose tenure ends in September this year, to go on leave because of his son's involvement in the malpractices, was unfair and smacks of injustice.
Mr Berchie said the Vice-Chancellor's son, Mr John Tabiri Asenso, the key culprit, is an adult who has not denied culpability of the offence and has actually confessed his readiness to face the consequences of his acts.
"We therefore do not see why the VC should suffer with his son when no case of complicity is proven against him." Mr Berchie therefore called on the Council to reconsider its decision. 27 May 05
