Black Stars head coach Kwasi Appiah says he will call three or four more players for Ghana’s crucial World Cup qualifier next month against Zambia in Kumasi.

He told reporters after Ghana’s 2-2 draw with Turkey in Istanbul that even though some of the players he brought on in the second half constitute part of his starting eleven, three or four players were not part of the squad at present.

Appiah noted that the friendly match was an opportunity to monitor at first hand players on the fringes of the Black Stars, adding that the second half performance was better for the Black Stars.

The ex-Black Stars captain revealed that inasmuch as it is good to win friendly games, his focus was more on how well the players performed in their given roles, noting that the Turkey friendly was a means of building a team for the Zambia duel.

Appiah reserved praise for team captain Asamoah Gyan who came on in the second half to score two goals to rescue a draw for Ghana, adding that Gyan has set an example for every player playing for the Black Stars.

“My captain is a great player and he is always committed on the field of play. That is what every player should do; once you wear the national colours you make sure that you kill yourself for your country and that is what he does every time he plays for Ghana.”
