Wakaso is OK. He is young. He represented Ghana at the U17 championship in 2005. It is good to see that Ghana is managing to bring players in from the junior teams into the senior teams.

What Mr Barns is saying is right and without any reservation, I will add some of the behaviour of football supporters throughout the whole world.They are found of Hero worship be it in the UK, France and especially in Germany,where they hero worshipping their icon players and they are always first to pointout their pitfalls.It is also found in political and musical landscapes where people compare their leaders to the lord Jesus Christ and later found them to be no where near the lord when they disappoint them with all their fake promises.I saw how Abedi Pele,s elderly son Ayew was being worshipped and exposing him to beautiful girls and all kinds of big names atributed to him which his father who was a real football gem never experience,to this end mr Barns is right to issue a note of warning to the current new found football gems in the Ghana Black star team.I hope with this development, Ghana will be blessed with the 5th times victory over the AFCON champiomships and the donated Egyitian coverted cup brought to Ghana once more over 30 years waiting.

2. WRONG to say Ghanaians like to make players scapegoats. All the players he mentioned turned their backs on us. Prince Boateng refused to play for Ghana. Essien is injured and also retired from international play. Dede Ayew was called but wanted to be begged, so the coach rightly dropped him.
Ghanaians have never turned their backs on players like Abedi Pele, Tony Yeboah, Tony Baffour, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Daniel Addo, Ali Jarah, John Mensah, Isaac Vorsah, Gago, Muntari etc etc, so what is this guy talking about?

And who says Essien, Dede and Prince Boateng abandoned us. Ghanaians discuss football based on emotions and not logic so people have failed to realise the true reason why KPB retired from the national team. It will be my word against yours so let me drop that topic. To say that Dede wanted to be begged is an insult to the integrity of the young man and flies in the face of all the sacrifices he's made for Ghana. In CAN 2012 he played the entire tournament with a dislocated shoulder and he battled on the pitch through pain. All Dede wanted was an extension so he can fulfill an appointment wit the OM Doctor. If he rushed down without the doctor's consent and aggravates the injury, what happens? As Barnes rightly said Ghanaians just like u are quick to praise but quicker to condemn you as you have rightly proven!!!!

I do not hate or envy Andre (although I personally think he is overrated, but that is my opinion), you should learn to stop making sweeping generalisations for example saying that anyone who says anything against Dede is "just a jealous, awfully envious person" and put a more substantial argument across.

Shwazzo made a valid argument with relevant examples. You just came here jumping and flailing and sounding like a teenage girl with words like "sheesh!!!" and no substantial argument!

But are you aware that sometimes players start out humble and committed and then their Ego takes over when they think they have made it?
That was my view of the Dede situation, although I admit I have not followed the full story. Anyway, he was playing for Marseille on the weekend that Ghana kicked off AFCON 2013. He may regret his decision, as this may turn out to be a chance he had to add a gold medal to his collection!
As for insults, by all means, we will criticise player performance on the field, but the way Barnes said we make them "scapegoats" is as if there is some lasting animosity towards these players, which I do not think is the case.
And why should it be my word against yours if we talk about KPB? It should simply be the truth which should be out there? What happened to cause KPB to abandon Ghana?
Well, only God knows what was really in the heart of Dede when he decided to extend the deadline given to him to report at camp. If I misjudged it by thinking he wanted us to come and beg him, then apologies to him. But if not, then he has lost a golden opportunity to add another medal to his collection.

Let us be fair to each and everyone. Situational approach to dealing with issues is deemed paramount and in Dede's case, l think the coach exercised judgment.

I have been very impressed with some of the new players including Solomon Asante, Albert Adoma and the GK Douda.

Sometimes, we need to realize that footballers are human beings just like us and they have feelings as well. Charles, will you be happy if you were in Dede's shoes? or will you be happy if your boss gives you similar treatment? Prior to the 2000 world cup David Beckham suffered an injury, the SUN newspaper put a picture of his injured leg on its front page and asked the entire nation to touch the leg and pray for him. It's these acts that sometimes move footballers to die for the nation. When footballers believe that they will be abandoned at the least instance, you are killing the passion they have when the put on the national jersey. If you are a Ghanaian you will knw that Michael Essien suffered his biggest injury playing for the Black Stars yet we call him ungrateful.

The big players may think they have the right to dictate terms to the coach but they do not.

Anyway, I think the communication should have been between Ghana (or the coach) and his club, not the player directly. This would have eliminated the conflict of interest that faced Dede.
But having said that, the team is doing well with or without Dede. This should serve as a lesson to the players that no one man is bigger than the team.

Praise him; Praise him. Crucify him; Crucify him. Humans are prone to that so this is a timely advice not only for Dauda and Wakaso but also for the entire team. The two have undoubtedly contributed in no small measure to the success of the Black Stars so far. But Wakaso must be wary of committing infringements in dangerous areas. He must also desist from holding on to the ball for too long. For the match itself, I think there have to be changes in the midfield especially the defensive part. It was literally non-existent in the Cape Verde match. It will also help if the Stars can vary their style of play. We must strive to attack through the central area not only the wings. The Cape Verdians neutralise our threat from the wings whilst launching their own attacks through the middle and for long periods we had no answer to that. Hope these shortcomings have been worked on as we approach the crucial stages of the tournament. Once again I wish our boys the best of luck to keep the Black Star Flag flying high all the way through the rest of the tournament. MAY THE ALMIGHTY BE WITH THEM THROUGH THICK AND THIN.

You are right in your assessment of the Cape Verde game, we did well to go through the game but if we had played like that against Mali or the like, we would have been in deep trouble. You simply cannot defend a one goal lead like that in modern football. Our defense is good but not impregnable by any means. If it was, Dauda would not have been called on to produce four so crucial saves to keep us in the game. On another day and against a better opposition, we would have lost. I hope we dont play like that again in the remainder of the tournament, we are much better than that. The best way of defense sometimes is by attacking. I also think Derek Boateng should have been on ten to fifteen minutes earlier as we needed a ball holder and a distributor in the middle of the park when we were bombarded for most of the second half. I hope these errors will be eradicated before we face stronger teams in the next rounds.

Even against Niger, the Nigerian equalizer was legitimate and had the goal stood the entire complexion of the game could have changed. Against Cape-Verde the penalty was contentious as it was basically a shoulder charge...Many referees will not have given such a soft penalty. If not for Dauda's extraordinary saves Ghana would hv bn grossly embarrassed by the nimble-footed Islanders. Our midfield has been non-existent and Kwasi Appiah looks clueless and seems to be riding on mother luck. If we win the cup it will paper up all the deficiencies otherwise don't the cookie crumbles!

But I disagree with you when you say Kwasi Appiah looks clueless. Ghana had a slow start to the tournament but are picking up steam at the right time. We are hitting our peak in the knockout stages which is what you want.
Another thing is that Ghana always plays to match the opposition. So if you give us a cheap team we will struggle and win 1 nil. If you give us a good team, we will play well and win (or lose) by a small margin. For example, in the 2010 world cup, we struggled with Botswana, but we took Uruguay to penalties.
In 2006 world cup, we beat the United states and Czech republic, both teams ranked much higher than us. We played draw with England in a friendly at wembley. It is just the way we are..... we play poorly against weak teams and win narrowly, and play better against good teams and also win narrowly.

Of course no coach in his right mind will continue to field a player who commits such fundamental error especially when there are equall good players to fill his position. It is not good for the morale of the team. Asamoah Gyandid not learn from his past. You may recall that during our first World Cup appearance, he was cautioned over a penalty kick. On our second appearance, he missed a penalty, breaking the hearts of Ghana and Africa. Then in Japan friendly, he missed another kick and then again the last Cup of nations. He says no more kicks but did it have to take that long for him to admit he is no good penalty taker? Yes, Barnes was in the under 17 winning team of 1990(?)but that is not an experience to councel a team! We all can, even Tamakloe can. The players are not kids who have achieved the unexpected so swollen headedness is not something to warn them of. Use your head, Barcello!
