during that era, some people including a kotoko biased media linked hearts success to ndc in government & et mensah. so everything was done to block those cracking hearts players from being selected into the national team. at that time the late sly tetteh was on fire marketing players. so instead of hearts players, players like paintsil, john mensah, muntari(within one year a member od starlets, satellites & blackstars), razak ibrahim, derek boateng, baffoe djan, asamoah djan, william tiero, aziz ansah etc had a leeway. others like afranie, silas tetteh, dossena facilitated it.
