Desailly thinks this is now the turn of Côte d'Ivoire. They cannot continue doing badly all the time. It is just like Spain had for long been tournament under-performance until their time came.

I think also Desailly means Cote d'Ivoire will do better than Ghana did in South Africa. He may be right. Ghana was lucky to have reached the quarters in SA. That luck may not come all the time. That is why I think we lost our chance in SA to be the first African country to make it to the semis.

As for me, as a true African, I will be happy if any of the Black African countries makes it to the semi-final. After that I will also want Algerie to make it to semis, but Black Africa firs. Call it racism - I don't mind.

Africa will have more places in the 2020 games because there will be 48 teams. And if we do well in Brazil we can get up to 8 places.

Marcus, the group of muscles required for long distance running is different from that for playing football. When your sport involves short bursts of activity, you develod your fast twitch muscles which uses oxygen quickly (this is why 100 meters runners for example are very muscular and long distance runners usually thin). Long distance runners develop their slow twitch muscles which uses the oxygen in your blood to produce energy and releases energy slowly, so you can work for a long time without getting tired.
There are also different types of stamina (aerobic versus anareobic endurance) required for different sports.

So a long distance runner will not make a good footballer, because he hasnt developed his fast twitch muscles (a long distance runner can have up to 80% slow twitch vs fast twitch muscles) and Usain Bolt cannot run a marathon because he will be tired after 5 minutes!
Normal people would normally have about 50,50 fast v slow twitch, professional athletes develop one group over the other.

I watched a program sometime ago where Mo Farah (UK double gold olympic champion) went to train in Kenya. The children (about 8,9 years old) wake up early and go running. In the camps where the promising ones are selected, they will train, eat, sleep, train, eat sleep, nothing else. So I dont think someone who has trained for years can simply change their training regime and switch to football in a couple of years.
Desailly can go and coach the Kenya football team, but just because they are from kenya does not mean the guys in the Kenyan football team have the capacity to run long distance, therefore they will have more or less the same stamina as other pro footballers.
Of course, life is not simple, and there are many other factors which come into play. For instance, Kenya is a high altitude country. There is less oxygen at higher levels of the earth. Therefore if you train at high altitude and then come down to sea level it may be a bit easier for you as there is more oxygen. There is genetics, training regimes (as you have suggested) etc etc.
However, my conclusion is that even if Odenke went to pick a bunch of long distance runners who have been training as such since age 8 or 9 (maybe a group who are failing to make it as top class runners) and tried to train them to be footballers, their capacity to run in short bursts of speed over 90 minutes will not be better than that of normal pro footballers............just the same way that if you go and ask the Kenyan football team to run a marathon, they will fail.
Just my calculated guess, not scientific fact though!

If his statement was something to prep the coach and his team to be cautious, then I will say fine but such statements are not welcomed by Ghanaians at the stage of our preparation. You took French citizenship, played for France throughout your career and now sees yourself as a "WHITE". We Ghanaians have decided not to go with the "WHITES" anymore, what then is his problem? Why is he not targeting the French national team post? Give us a break Frenchman. Your investments are your private properties, those alone cannot qualify you as a true Ghanaian but your action will speak most so be careful.
