Team building is a mixture of old experienced players and youth players for the youth to tap the potentials from the old players. I personally don't blame the writer but rather previous managers of Chelsea fc after Essien's injuries. A good manager is the one who transforms, maintains or improves his player performance after injury but not to sideline the player by worming the bench because he wants to win his matches.

I am a Ghanaian and would have written the same about Essien. He's a spent force. If I were Appiah, Essien and Gyan would only be subs at the world cup. They can no longer play for full 90min. Essien will prove his critics wrong. He may not be agile as he used to be but he has lots of experience. Anybody that watched him as the captain of Chelsea against Arsenal in the Carling Cup saw how effective he was. His distribution was perfect. He knows how to read the game. The only reason why he appeared rusty was due to the way he was used in the last few months in any position saved as a central midfield. I will rather have Essien compared to Obi because Essien is not a side way passer of the ball. He is not finished yet.

By the Essien is not worn out as you make him out to be he is in great form during the preseason and for some reason couldn't fit him into his new system of building the team around Oscar. It is the same way Chelsea had to let Juan Mata go not because he wasn't brilliant, but quite simply because he did not fit in the system and in Jose's plans. It either Jose built the team around Mata or Oscar and he just chose Oscar.
