  Yes, Asamoah Gyan may be a unifier, and he may also have all the good qualities of a captain. But he also has a big weakness that you don't seem to be aware of: Asamoah Gyan is very selfish. That was the only reason why Ghana ended up at the quarter final stage during the last World Cup tournament in South Africa. He was so consumed with the selfish desire to make a name for himself that he elected himself to take the penalty kick against Uruguay. He ran for and grabbed the ball and insisted on taking the kick personally. He didn't wait for the coach or any other authority to decide who should take the kick. This was all because he wanted to win the Golden Ball award and so make a name for himself. That was pure selfishness. And we all know what that has cost Ghana and the entire continent of Africa.
  
  A truly good leader would do all in his power to eschew all traces of selfishness. So, Mr. Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi, while you shower praise on Gyan's leadership qualities, don't fail to remember that he's also selfish to the core. Sof far as I'm concerned, that alone would disqualify him as captain of the Stars.

  As for the penalty, forget about it -- that happens everywhere in the world. Gyan should have continued taking our penalty kicks. I want a penalty-taker that I'm confident in (although I know he can miss, which is human) but I will be 99% certain that he will score.
  For example if Lampard, Ronaldo, Messi, and Gerrard are playing together (I mean, in the same team) in a game and there is a penalty (and I'm the coach) do you expect me to choose one of them, other than Lampard, to take the kick?
  This is not to say that Lampard can not miss. But it is to imply that if you want to bet, bet well!!!
  A word to the wise, is at Faya Lageau in Northern Chad!!!

Therefore your statement that he "really is a true captain in every way because he always respects the decisions of others despite being the captain:" is totally false. Gyan's behaviour during the South Africa 2010 that led to his decision to take the fateful kick totally betrays your statement.
  
  So far as I'm concerned, Gyan's selfishness alone would disqualify him as captain of the Stars.

  Stephen Appiah and Gyan have been great captains for the Black Stars. A striker must be selfish sometimes. There is nothing wrong with that. Greater players than Gyan have missed penalties.

  He must be commended for the good work that he is doing for the team so that he can do more. Nothing wrong with that. I love the way he has captained the team so far. Gyan, keep it up!
