  The players deserve appearance fees. Every country that qualifies for the world cup is giving preparation money, and additional money for group stages, Round of 16 etc by FIFA if the team progresses. FIFA gives the money to the FA's and they pay their players appearance fees etc. very often before the tournament starts. It is not selfish and greedy for the players to ask for that appearance fee. The group stage money from FIFA was about 8 million this world cup. The players deserve to be paid if it were not so, FIFA wouldn't be given national FA money.
